Otonde Odera feels he has been chosen by divine providence—whether it be surviving the moment of his birth to a defenseless mother in the middle of the wilderness, surrounded by hyenas, narrowly escaping death during a hippo attack, or his prominent life as a chef for the bloodthirsty Ugandan dictator Idi Amin, who reportedly even ate the flesh of his opponents. When meeting Otonde Odera, who seems as if he were born and lived several times over, one cannot avoid questions about the universe, the ups and downs of life, Barack Obama’s family, or even the bizarre recipe for a whole roasted goat served standing up.
