Jaroslav Valečka (*1972) is a prominent representative of the middle generation of Czech painters. In his artistic practice, this graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (1987–1991: painting studio of prof. Jiří Sopko, sculpture studio of prof. Jan Hendrych) has systematically explored themes associated with the history of the Sudeten region and the transformation of the local landscape, including the stories, legends, memories, superstitions, and mythologies associated with these changes. His paintings create a distinctive universe that feels stuck in time, marked by a turbulent history and a gradual loss of identity.

The Klatovy / Klenová Gallery is planning an extensive showing of the artist’s work, including important paintings from recent years as well as works made specifically for this occasion.
