Momentum of a Decision: About Cities and the Lives Within Them
Voluntary
What factors influence our quality of life in the city? Do we have places to live, meet, and relax? And to what extent can we ourselves influence the character of our city? We invite you to a discussion about Znojmo, cities, and life in them.
The discussion will be based on the book Momentum of a Decision by Janek Rous and Karolína Kripnerová, which explores how specific decisions transform cities, public spaces, and housing affordability—and how they affect those who live there, including people experiencing homelessness. The authors will present practical examples from other cities and demonstrate how decisions regarding housing, public space, or public investment can either exacerbate inequalities in a city or, conversely, help address them.
Together with architect Štěpán Matějka, we’ll then head out directly into the streets to apply this theory to the context of Znojmo. We’ll focus on how we use various places in Znojmo and what potential they still hold. We’ll look at where the tourist city meets everyday life, as well as places we might pass by without noticing, even though they could function differently.
To allow for group discussion, the walk is limited to 30 people, so please reserve your spot in advance.
