The digital age has brought about a rift in social fabric which language strives desperately to heal – how to keep the “human” in the loop when technology has once again shifted gears and accelerated beyond the horizon of a placid post-modernism, its speed bringing anxiety to both the individual and wider society. The last twenty years have seen an influx in the coining of futurisms and the lecture will attempt to analyze the links between the historical Futurist avant-garde and some of its contemporary outgrowths. The second part of the lecture will be a response and a further complement to the former in problematizing and diagnosing Futurisms' and their significance in the contemporary age. It delves into the emerging geopolitical landscape that is unveiling a future leaning towards “secessionism”, “atomization” and “patchworks” that are confronting a new phase of sociocybernetic transformation. Touching on an array of topics such as algorithmic governance, extrastatecraft and seasteading it attempts to understand the fissioning of a stable future order.

Emerging in 2013 as a platform for critical discussion on art and algorithm, the Diffractions Collective (Dustin Breitling, Vít Bohal) has developed into a body labouring at the intersection of accelerationist philosophy, technology, politics, semiotic economy, and conflict.

OE18 is a series of guest lectures by theorists and artists addressing the themes of contemporary arts and new technologies. The lectures are open to students of FAMU and other art academies, universities and the general public. The series is organized by FAMU Center for audiovisual studies. The lecture and discussion will be held in English.
