Join historian Petr Lexa Přendík, author of Ostravské pěšiny, and PLATO director Marek Pokorný on a tour of the places in Ostrava where PLATO began, continued its work, and ultimately settled.

Since 2022, we’ve been based in the renovated building of the former municipal slaughterhouse, but the journey to get there involved several temporary stops along the way. During our walk together, we’ll visit each of these locations, explore their historical context, and get a behind-the-scenes look at the development of the entire project.

We’ll discover how a gas storage tank was converted into exhibition spaces, how a small store managed to host a gallery, and how contemporary art found a home in a 5,000 m² glass-enclosed hobby store. Buildings that few would have imagined capable of such a transformation have become fully-fledged gallery spaces. We’ll show how the unique characteristics of these locations have shaped the functioning of an institution whose activities have never been limited to exhibitions alone.

Meeting place: at the Gong Multifunctional Auditorium in the Dolní Vítkovice area

Route length: Gong–PLATO 4.7 km, approx. 2 hours
