Rostislav Czudek – I Know a Beautiful Garden
Admission is by donation
Installation I Know of a Beautiful Garden is both an intimate personal confession and a universal exploration of the human need for security. It draws on the artist’s own refuge—the need to escape the ever-present fatigue, the pressure to be useful, and the noise of bad news from the outside world.
This imaginative space has real roots; it draws on a deeply buried memory of the artist’s grandmother’s garden, which often functions in the human mind as an archetype of absolute safety and carefreeness. The central motif of the work is a sleeping figure in the grass. Here, sleep is an expression of the highest form of trust in the surrounding space. Beneath a decorative, quilted “roof” and behind a fragment of a fence—which serves as a conscious shield against the outside world—the figure can finally let down its guard and simply be, for a moment.
Rostislav Czudek is a student in the Painting Studio 3 at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Brno University of Technology (VUT). In his work, he uses textiles and drawing to explore the themes of home, garden, and safe space. He has exhibited, among other places, at the “soft rooms” studio exhibition at Káznice in Brno and at the Tufest festival in Šternberk.
The opening will take place on Saturday, July 18, in the afternoon, as part of the opening walk. The program and map are available at festivalunicov.cz
