Exhibition Milevsko. Light presents both new and older large-format linocuts by Vojtěch Kovářík, inspired by industrial architecture and the interiors of the ossuary in Sedlec near Kutná Hora. Alongside darkness, invisibility, and the disintegration of the image, light becomes the central theme of the exhibition—light penetrating industrial halls, reflecting off architecture, and transforming the image itself into an almost vanishing trace.

The installation will also include the artist’s printing plates and new multi-prints created by overlapping older motifs. These works are loosely based on the principle of the Jewish genizah—the preservation of worn and damaged texts containing the sacred name, which must not be destroyed. Kovářík translates this principle into a graphic image as a metaphor for memory, layering, and the gradual disappearance of the original information. The exhibition loosely follows up on a recent publication dedicated to the artist, published by janfreiberg.cz.

Vojtěch Kovářík has long focused his work on large-format linocut, which he views not only as a graphic technique but also as a spatial and physical image. In his series, he works with motifs of industrial architecture, fragments, light, corporeality, the memory of place, and the memory of things. In addition to his artistic practice, he is also active as an educator.
