Ora et labora, or "pray and work", is the timeless and still inspiring motto of the oldest monastic order in the Christian West – the Benedictine Order. It is a schematic expression of the balance between spiritual life and work defined by the Rule of St. Benedict of Nursia as early as the beginning of the 6th century AD. The connection of this Benedictine motto with the Chomutov exhibition of the Prague painter Lenka Kozlíková is truly symbolic on many levels...
The exhibition includes paintings on canvas, as well as lithographs with dates of creation ranging from 2021 to 2026. The central canvas, titled Ora et labora: What has been divided remains together, is a kind of coloured allegory of the black and white reality with which the artist has been grappling in recent months. The image, created with mixed media, brings us to the fundamental questions of the subconscious, interpersonal relationships and the transience of human life. Of the colour lithographs on display, Axis Mundi, which was recently selected by an expert jury and included in the collective exhibition Graphics of the Year 2025 at the Karolinum in Prague, will undoubtedly attract attention.
