Lucie Kavánová (*1974) has been working as a licensed architect since 2004, focusing primarily on original designs for single-family homes and renovations. In 2006, she was awarded first place in the ČKA Nový domov 2005 competition in the renovation category for her highly successful renovation of a former watermill located near Lipnice nad Sázavou and its conversion into a residential home.

Lucie Kavánová’s own words offer insight into her approach to architecture: “I know from experience that the most important aspect of a building is its proportions—a personal sense of balance that determines the resulting aesthetics. That is what makes houses exceptional. This can be the architect’s contribution; an architect should understand and be able to organize. Furthermore, they should contribute ideas to the discussion of your vision and provide it with a structural framework. Every house can be different because it reflects the owner’s spirit and the meaningful continuity of its use—precisely thanks to the process by which it is created.”

Since 2020, Kavánová has served as the city architect of Roudnice nad Labem, and it is clear from the preceding remarks that the city has welcomed a figure who thinks about architecture in many layers and contexts. During her tenure in Roudnice, the architect has been involved in the planning and design of several public spaces, most notably the project for a new forest park and the park on Smetana Square, where she also collaborated on the pylon base for the bust of TGM.

Furthermore, she is constantly refining the concept for a new pedestrian zone in the immediate vicinity of the mineral spring; while she cannot implement this on her own from her current position, she can significantly contribute to ensuring that a meaningful discussion with a clear goal takes place regarding the pedestrian zone project. Kavánová also strives for meaningful dialogue in her role as city architect, whose agenda extends beyond professional consultations with developers and builders. Kavánová has also been collaborating with the Roudnice Gallery for many years on the annual architectural walks held as part of the nationwide Architecture Day festival.
