Martin Salajka (*1981) is a distinctive representative of contemporary Czech painting. A graduate of Brno’s Faculty of Fine Arts (Petr Veselý) and Prague’s Academy of Fine Arts (Michael Rittstein), he creates works in which he combines classical themes with an intense, expressive view of the world.

Salajka’s paintings – which range from natural sceneries to cityscapes and dark, fantastical landscapes – are distinctive mythological maps that function on the personal as well as universal level. In addition to depicting external reality, they guide the viewer through an inner landscape where the goal is not necessarily to find one’s way but to become lost in the constant “bustle of the world.”

In 2026, the Klatovy / Klenová Gallery is putting together an extensive exhibition of the artist’s works that will take up all three floors of the granary at Klenová. The exhibition thus offers a representative cross-section of Salajka’s work to date, including new pieces made specifically for this unique venue.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a educational programs and a guided tour with the artist.
