Robin Blažek presents his third solo exhibition at M6 Gallery, in which he showcases a series of paintings exploring various aspects of clinical depression—a mental illness that is often misinterpreted and underestimated in broader social discourse. In his new work, Blažek analyzes these aspects through introspection and sensitively illuminates the very concept of the disorder, gradually guiding the viewer through his own experiences of chaos, a space of nothingness and everything, and hope. 

The work is rooted in polarity and a life off the beaten path, a path the artist has navigated his entire life and from which he draws inspiration for his paintings. The exhibition deliberately plays on the tension between two poles of the artist’s expression: on the one hand, there are paintings rich in color and texture, gesturally intense and visually full; on the other, minimalist, almost seemingly “unfinished” large-format paintings in which the message becomes what remains absent. This formal contrast in itself mirrors the nature of clinical depression—the fluctuation between overwhelming intensity and emptiness, between the need to communicate and the inability to speak.

Through the specific life stories to which the paintings refer, the artist offers the viewer the opportunity to engage in a thought-provoking inner dialogue. Blažek presents an illustration of his inner state and a visualization of his symptoms; in doing so, he creates a space in which subjective experience becomes shared, and individual pain takes the form of visual hope that enters the viewer’s perception.

Blažek’s work has long raised awareness in the field of mental health care, fostered an awareness of one’s own vulnerability, and opened up the topic of experiencing clinical depression. The exhibition The Chaos of a Hopeful Mind thus builds on his previous work, yet takes the curatorial and artistic dialogue a step further—from mere naming toward a deeper understanding.
