Veronika Richterová – a painter, sculptor, designer, and collector who, more than twenty years ago, fell under the spell of discarded PET bottles and elevated them to a dignified sculptural medium.
She works with the theme of plastic, which “permeates the world everywhere,” but gives it a new, unexpected, and often fascinating form. She heats, cuts, glues, and shapes the recycled plastic using hot air, transforming it into surprisingly aesthetic and organic forms.
The world of Veronika’s playful artistic imagination comes to life both in small, precise details and often extends into large-scale spatial installations. One such installation is The Feast, created for the Kostnice Gallery. Veronika transforms this space into a banquet hall, transporting us into a rich, almost Baroque-style composition, offering an opulent spectacle that dazzles at first glance with its colors, shapes, and abundance. The festive table is overflowing with both elegant crystal goblets and dishes that, however, are made not from luxurious ingredients but from ordinary plastic waste.
Veronika Richterová (*1964) studied at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague in the studio of monumental painting and at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. She works in the fields of painting, sculpture, and design, and is the founder of a unique artistic style called PET-art. Together with her husband Michal Cihlář, she also creates thematic photo collections and art books. She has exhibited her work numerous times in galleries and public spaces both at home and abroad. She also creates creative programs for children and adults, focused primarily on upcycling, PET-art, and promoting this art form. She lives and works in Buštěhrad.
