In his novel Watt, Samuel Beckett describes a situation in which Watt observes a pot in Mr. Knott’s house, where food is cooked twice a day: “However flawlessly the pot fulfilled all the purposes of a pot, however well it performed all the tasks of a pot, it was not a pot.” We are looking at objects that we know what they are, yet at the same time they are not entirely what they seem to be. Objects that evoke a certain discomfort in the viewer, even though they otherwise belong to the familiar and reassuring world of everyday life.
Architecture Uncomfortable Workshop is a Budapest based architecture office. Which, beside the planning, always tries to make experiments in small case projects. One of the biggest motivations for them is the understanding and activating the contemporary vernacular architecture. And they are continuously looking for the situations where comfort meets real human needs
