"Sending Kisses is a drawing and sculptural installation that emerges from a performative exercise I have been practicing over an extended period. Each day, I kiss objects around me using a particularly sensitive part of my body -the lips- paying close attention to their presence despite their constant unresponsiveness. I am kissing objects that I own, objects that are a somewhat alive, objects that we share and we see, while leaving my mark on the items after the connection has been formed. Through this gesture, I reflect on the deceptive distance that persists within acts of affection—how connection always contains separation, and how touch itself can function as an illusion of bonding.

Hanna Szabó-Sáfrány is a Budapest based painter, visual artist and electronic musician. With her project based works, she focuses on comically over the top bodies, such as extreme grin or body hair that is spreading like a parasite. Her paintings, which she calls “mind-maps”, or objects, address themes of multiplying the human body, or the body’s ancient history in a modern context.
