3 x 3 gallery / Liberec
The gallery closed in 2014
After three years, the gallery ended its activity in April 2014.
Under the name Galerie 3x3 is a space for the presentation of contemporary young art located in the northern tip of our country, in Liberec. It is an exhibition space of the Little Theatre of František Xaver Šalda in Liberec, which used to function as a dressing room. Now it has acquired a new dimension and offers the possibility of presenting various artistic projects that go far beyond the borders of the Liberec region. The name also refers to the size of the space the gallery offers. The 3x3 project was originally initiated by students and graduates of Czech art schools Andrea Pekárková and Tomáš Dianiška. Based on their experience with the operation of this already concrete space, the vision of creating a regular and long-lasting Gallery 3x3 was born. Helena Krásová and Jan Nálepa join the artistic council that is later created for the project. The gallery's activity in the space of the theatre, at that time still a non-specific gallery space, was launched in the spring of 2010 with an exhibition by visual artist Andrea Pekárková, aka AKA 47, entitled 3x3 art+time+space/hardecore. AKA 47 is a student of the Visual Communication Studio at the Faculty of Arts and Architecture in Liberec and will be the first artist to open the exhibition plan of the new 3x3 Gallery with her project. The exhibition plan will be carefully prepared by the aforementioned artistic council, which has taken on the rather difficult task of presenting the current tendencies of contemporary Czech art of the young generation to the Liberec audience. The gallery will focus more on monographic exhibitions and will emphasize individual projects of art school students, emerging artists and those already established. The specific size of the space may be a challenge for the selected artists and curators, which they have to deal with in order to present the best of their current work to the Liberec audience.
