Artivist Lab / Praha 1
Mon, Wed–Thu 3–6pm
Artivist Lab focuses on political art, artivism and media, but also on current social issues. It hosts both Czech and international artists. It supports and exhibits artists who, due to their activities, have difficulties to exhibit in their home countries (Artist in Need). We also give space to art students or curators who work on social issues. The main idea of the gallery is to bring together interdisciplinary people who respond to social, social and political issues. In fact, it is a laboratory where exhibitions, discussions, workshops and lectures are held, where philosophers, sociologists, journalists, artists and activists should come together to interact during each exhibition.
One of the aims of the gallery is precisely to bring together different departments of Charles University in joint gallery projects. We encourage collaboration between artists and curators and non-profit organizations. In 2019, we were able to collaborate on exhibitions with non-profit organizations such as People in Need, Slovo 21 and Prague Pride. Artivist Lab also collaborated with the Boris Nemtsov Academic Center for Russian Research, which was founded at the Faculty of Arts at Charles University, and the Herzl Center for Israeli Studies. It is the first gallery of its kind in the Czech Republic.
The Artivist Lab Gallery is located in the premises of the Hybernská Campus in Prague 1. The Hybernská Campus is a joint project of the Prague City Hall and Charles University, which aims to connect the wider public and Prague cultural projects with the activities of the university.
Artivist Lab was founded on 28 October 2018, as part of the 100th anniversary of Czechoslovakia, and is part of the PhD studies of the founder Tamara Moyzes at AVU.
