The Galerijní laboratoř (Gallery Laboratory) project was created in 2010 in collaboration with FHS UK as a kind of excursion into the issues of contemporary art curating. In the first phase, student exhibitions were realised for the hybrid gallery space of the Macromolecular Institute of the CAS. The low budget and non-profit nature of the project is essential, as well as the promotion of multicultural and intergenerational dialogue, where the selection of artists emphasises the middle and older generation of artists over 35. Priority is given to authorial interventions in the gallery space in the spirit of site-specific installations directly tailored to the gallery. The project is also intended for students undertaking their first curatorial projects, as a kind of practical experiment.

By searching for the limits of the gallery space, initiating interdisciplinary dialogue and social sensitivity, we can mention a parallel with Jerzy Grotowski's notion of the theatre as a laboratory, which serves as a kind of inspiration for the visual arts as well. Last but not least, it is not possible to omit the authorial approaches of some visual artists whose work does not focus on the mere production of contemporary art, but also includes the ability to organize or build so-called independent gallery projects where the emphasis is on democratic discussion and the development of civil society.
