The House of Arts, which hosts the Gallery of Contemporary Art, was managed in 1997-2009 by the joint-stock company Městské kulturní domy České Budějovice, which had a long-term lease of the house from the statutory city of České Budějovice. At the beginning of February 2010, the Department of Culture of the Municipality of České Budějovice became the administrator of the gallery.
 
 
Since 1998, the dramaturgy of this gallery under the leadership of curator Michal Škoda has focused on contemporary art and architecture. Every year the gallery prepares exhibitions of the most interesting local artists, as well as important artists from abroad. These are usually presented for the first time not only in our country, but in Eastern Europe in general. Space is also given to interesting young artists. It is neither a commercial gallery nor a collection gallery.
 
 
In České Budějovice, we have succeeded in building an important, prestigious gallery with an international reputation, which is the only one in the country that prepares an annual programme with such a high number of high-quality, foreign exhibitions. This is also reflected in the fact that České Budějovice is becoming internationally known not only as a city where world-class beer is brewed, but also where there is something important in the field of culture. Thanks to systematic work, the House of Arts is nowadays ranked among the best things to visit in the Czech Republic in the field of art.
 
The House of Arts is located on the main square in České Budějovice. Exhibitions are presented in five rooms on the first floor with a total area of 150 m2.
