After the reconstruction of a large factory hall in Karlin, a former industrial district in Prague 8, a unique complex of art studios and galleries Karlin Studios was created, which became the first of its kind in Prague. The founder and initiator of this non-profit project is FUTURA, o.s., which is also one of the members of the Karlin Studios civic association. The multifunctional cultural centre houses 200 m2 of exhibition space run by the FUTURA team and two studios used by foreign artists who are invited to Prague as part of the residency programme organised by FUTURA. The central space is used by the Karlin Studios gallery, which is dramaturgically focused on the presentation of young Czech and foreign artists who would find it difficult to find adequate and such generous spaces for the realisation of their alternative projects within Prague's gallery operations.
