The independent community centre Sibiř is a loose continuation of the activities of the Culture Against Decay initiative, which was established in Brno in August 2013 with the aim of reviving abandoned dilapidated buildings in the city. Initially an informal association of people and later an association in the years 2013-2016 sought to acquire a symbolic lease of the premises in Vlhká (2013/2014), the functionalist City Spa in Zábrdovice (2015/2016) and the buildings in Francouzská Street (2016). In May 2017, these activities, always aiming almost to the description of the contract, were crowned with success, and finally the moment has come from which the further history of the former Husovice cinema and the Bio Siberia theatre can unfold, and at the same time the story of Brno's first autonomous centre built from below and with self-help.

The former Legionary Cinema and the Bio Sibiř theatre are among the buildings that have been empty for the last decades. During the First Republic and in the 1960s it was a cinema, in the 1990s it was home to the Theatre In Flagranti and also housed the dubbing studio of Czech Television. In recent years, however, cultural activities have ceased and the municipality did not know how to deal with the neglected space. In May 2017, after a mutual agreement and the signing of a contract, our initiative came into the scene and since spring 2017 we have been cleaning the building, making it technically operational and trying to prepare and awaken it for further life.
