Hostem otevřeného semináře Centra audiovizuálních studií FAMU bude Peter Flemming

Flemming is a Canadian artist active for over fifteen years and working with robotics, electronics, mechanics, audio, video, performance and new media. His past work has included lazy machines, solar powered robotics, and hypnotically repetitive automata.

A primary goal I have as an artist is to build systems that I do not fully understand, with outcomes I cannot fully predict. These systems serve as foils, with which I hope to provoke a temporary space for contemplation of the forces at work in the environment surrounding us; things ordinarily overlooked or that have grown too familiar to be seen. To do this, I create large assemblies of simple devices. I use mechanical repetition as a building block, slowly constructing complexity in layers: cycles overlap, synchronize and step out of phase, collectively generating an endlessly fluctuating performance.
