Secret moose in Czechoslovakia, a domestication station in Russia, moose safaris in Sweden and the sacred animal of the Mi’kmaq in Canada. How far can the call of the moose take you? And what can the search for this majestic creature reveal about our relationship with nature, the wilderness and ourselves?

The screening will be followed by a discussion with the film’s director, Hana Nováková. We will ask her how the idea for the film came about, how long it took to film moose across several continents and much more.

In case of rain, the event will move to the community room at the back of the courtyard.

AMOOSED: A MOOSE ODYSSEY (Hana Nováková, 2025, Czech Republic, Slovakia, 77 min)

Does something like a totem animal exist? And if so, can its call be so strong that it sends even a European on a journey following its tracks? In her moose odyssey, the director follows moose-obsessed, so-called "amoosed" people across the planet. Her journey leads from the stray and hidden moose of former Czechoslovakia, through a Russian moose domestication station, to Swedish moose safaris where moose live with people directly in their households, all the way to distant Nova Scotia in Canada. And in the end, it turns out that it was probably the director's ancestors who led her to Canada, where the Indigenous nation of the Mi'kmaq lives, who consider moose to be sacred animals and their spirit totem. Mi’qmak have an important message about animals and nature not only for the director, but for the entire contemporary world.
