The title of the exhibition The Rest Interval has its origins in sport, where it refers to the time between phases of physical exertion when recovery and regeneration occur. In the broader context of life, the term is a call to rest – in an environment where there is constant activity, sensory overload and a desire for self-improvement. In The Rest Interval, Dúbravský creates a visual world that can be described as a form of "biological expressionism."
Andrej Dúbravský is one of the leading figures in contemporary Slovak painting. His work focuses mainly on figurative painting, in which the motifs of the human body, nature and intimate everyday life are intertwined.
