Architecture of Repair
25. 03. 2026 - 30. 08. 2026
Galerie Františka Drtikola Příbram / Příbram
The repair architecture approach is based on a fundamental principle: Don't throw away, don't demolish, don't cancel anything that can be adapted for use for new needs, instead of making, building, constructing new. A repaired thing, a repaired tree, a repaired house, a repaired road, a repaired city. And also repaired social and cultural relations.
Applying an architecture of repair is first and foremost about a value approach, and then about the practical tools to fulfill it. If we decide to favour the repair approach, we first need to know its deeper meaning. Not only to understand intellectually the need to be environmentally friendly, but also to feel love - for the existing, the old, the tired, the worn out. The exhibition concentrates on the very meaning of repair and its acceptance and application not only on a social level, but also in our individual everyday lives. And last but not least, it shows how architecture can do this.
The group exhibition presents several contemporary architectural studios in whose work the approach of repair architecture appears, and shows in one of their realized projects how they have fulfilled it. At the same time, the overarching theoretical part presents the topic of repair in general, not only in the architectural field, but also in other disciplines: art, science, humanities, social.
