They live among us, beneath our feet, and high above us—and yet we often overlook them. What is the hidden face of the animal kingdom, and where exactly does the boundary between us and the wilderness lie?

This year-long art course for children and teenagers aged 12–16 will serve as a space for discovery, experimentation, and exploring the animal as a symbol, a mask, or our “second skin.” Weather permitting, we’ll explore the outdoor space and respond to it through temporary installations and performance art. As the colder months arrive, we’ll move to the studio, where one of the projects will be, for example, designing and sewing our own cocoon.

We’ll experiment with textiles, sewing, collage, natural and found materials, objects, performance, and installation. We’ll create masks, “second skins,” fabric objects, collaborative spatial installations, and small-scale performances. Part of the year-long project will also involve keeping a personal journal, in which we’ll record visual and written reflections from each session. An important part of the workshops will be collaboration, the courage to experiment, and trying out new approaches and methods of creation. The course will offer space for developing imagination, a sensitive perception of the surrounding world, and the search for a personal artistic language through play, movement, and materials.

Our workshop will be enriched by a significant artistic event: the opening of the exhibition Crested / mâcistan: Tanya Lukin Linklater and Duane Linklater, which showcases two leading artists from North America’s First Nations who are jointly exploring questions of belonging to cultural heritage, the cycle of knowledge, and collective memory.

Instructors

Anna Nevrlá is an artist, set designer, traveler, and writer. In 2019–2020, she studied Art History at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, and Art Education at the Faculty of Education, Charles University. In 2024, she graduated from KALD DAMU with a degree in set design. Immediately afterward, she spent a year in Italy—part of it in Bologna, where she secured a theater-painting residency at Camere d’Aria, and finally lived in the hills near Turin, where she learned mosaic art but also spent a few days on the streets, gathering plenty of inspiration through her unconventional approach to travel. While studying at DAMU, she collaborated on set design for film projects with FAMU and created set designs for several school productions. She has exhibited her paintings in the Czech Republic and Italy; she is the illustrator of Běla Čápová’s poetry book Cucat vnitřní mňau and has staged several performances of her original production Micro.Macro.Vita in collaboration with Kateřina Hrubá, who holds an MSc in social psychology. Thematically, she focuses on painting in the present tense and its application in theatrical practice. Since October 2025, she has been working in Prague as a docent for school groups at the Signal Space gallery and at a forest preschool. She has long led a canoeing Scout troop in Stará Boleslav and organizes summer camps for children.

Tereza Spálenková is a visual artist, fashion designer, and instructor. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the Studio of Applied Photography at UJEP in Ústí nad Labem, where she focused on creative work that spanned photography, video, installation, fashion, and performance. In her artistic practice, she has long explored the relationship between human personality and visual expression through working with textiles, upcycling, and material experiments. She combines her experience in art education, leading children’s camps, and producing cultural projects in her teaching practice, where she emphasizes sensory and experiential learning. She offers workshop participants an inspiring environment where mistakes do not exist but instead become new sources of inspiration—encouraging the courage to experiment, push beyond established boundaries, and seek a unique form of creative expression.
