The Intersection Circle collective regularly organizes group readings of thought-provoking feminist texts here. These gatherings are open to anyone who wants to engage in mutual learning and radical imagination with an open mind. 

We invite you to a collective reading and workshop with the Intersection Circle, facilitated by Eri Mrtva, titled Artivism as a Sensitive Strategy for Change.

Art will never change the world… or will it? This group discussion on activist, political, and socially engaged art builds on this year’s Biennale theme In the Name of Art: Essential Desires and invites participants to explore the diverse strategies of communication and connection that the visual arts offer. Together, we’ll look at various forms of so-called artivism, its limitations, and how each of us can incorporate it into our struggles for a more just world.

We’ll draw inspiration from the text by theorist and activist Lucy R. Lippard, but we’ll also work with examples of local projects, the artworks surrounding us in the exhibition, and our collective knowledge. Activists, artists, and all curious, courageous souls—whether you have experience with this topic or simply haven’t realized it yet—are invited. You can read a translation of key sections of the text or the entire text in English beforehand, but we’ll also read it together on-site.

The Intersection Circle is an independent, imaginative space for collective learning in Prague. About once every three weeks, it organizes public meetings where participants discuss contemporary feminist literature and experiment with forms of learning without a teacher. The term “kroužek” (circle) expresses an effort to reclaim theory from the ivory towers of academia, while also celebrating childlikeness and play. The word “intersection” highlights the intertwining of various forms of social inequality, which the group seeks to identify during these gatherings while also brainstorming ways to collectively challenge these inequalities.

The fourth edition of the biennial In the Matter of Art presents art under the subtitle Necessary Desires, showcasing art that arises from necessity and is shaped by the living conditions of those who create it. The project is co-curated by Jaroslava Tomanová, Jakub Gawkowski, and František Fekete. The exhibition and program will be free to the public for the entire duration of the event. The Biennale consists of a three-month exhibition, a program of events, and long-term activities that explore expressions of artistic and civic resilience, solidarity, and collective practice. The main exhibition runs from June 12 to September 13, 2026, at the National Gallery in Prague—the Trade Fair Palace—and GAMPA—the Pardubice City Gallery. The third of the main venues, the Tusculum Prague art center, presents long-term community activities that extend beyond the three-month duration of the exhibition.
