The Statutory City of Brno announces the launch of an open, single-phase artistic and architectural design competition for the design of a work of art dedicated to Lucie Bakešová on Žlutý kopec in Brno.
Lucie Bakešová (1853–1935) first entered public life as an archaeologist, then continued as an ethnographer and organizer of national collections of folk culture, and later as a social and educational worker in Brno, where she co-founded the Moravian Women’s Shelter in Brno, which gradually grew into a major social welfare organization in the Brno region. In addition, she was a member of many socio-political organizations, charitable groups, and women’s associations. She was actively involved in all of these endeavors and contributed articles to the press of the time. She worked selflessly at the Women’s Shelter, the Shelter for Orphaned Children, the Association of Progressive Women, the Women’s Division of the Czechoslovak Red Cross (in collaboration with Alice Masaryková), in the Union of Slavic Women, the Union of Women and Girls, the Geneva League for Peace and Freedom, Živě (as chairwoman), the Peace Union, and the Temperance Union.
