As part of the closing weekend of the biennial Matter of Art at the National Gallery, we invite you to the book launch of With Ribbons and Flags (With Ribbons and Flags), based on the latest project by Ukrainian artist Davyd Chychkan (1986–2025), created between 2022 and 2024, before he voluntarily enlisted in a combat unit of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and fell in battle against the Russian occupiers.

As part of the book launch, there will be a discussion featuring artist Stefan Klein and Ukrainian anarcho-feminist activist Mira, moderated by Jakub Gawkowski, co-curator of the In the Matter of Art 2026 Biennial.

In his latest series of works With Ribbons and Flags, a selection of which is on display at the “Matter of Art 2026” Biennial at the National Gallery in Prague, Davyd—a staunch anarcho-syndicalist and anti-fascist— has decided to portray participants in the anti-authoritarian leftist movement who are fighting in this war or have already fallen defending Ukraine.
