The exhibition Get the Images is a collection of images that their creators felt were worth pausing to consider amid the endless, spinning cycle of life. Images worth remembering, identifying with, and experiencing. It is a generational statement, characterized by a natural interconnection with the online world, its oversaturation, and its visual nature. It is a cross-section of contemporary pop culture, defined by a melancholic attitude toward the 2000s. The images within it migrate, changing both form and material.
They belong to anyone who claims ownership of them. Through images, we appropriate experiences, memories, and identities that fit into our algorithms and personal notions of life and the world.
But what makes us stop and consider which images we want to make our own? The collection presented in this exhibition—with its slightly ironic title, a reference to the most famous commercial stock photo site—speaks to the artists’ current motivations. Their personal visual narratives are shaped by a melancholic fascination with past aesthetics and self-definition, as well as by a day-to-day effort to capture the fleeting nature of experience or to personify artificial intelligence.
