GVUN Malá / Náchod
An exhibition in the display cases of the Španiel Passage will showcase a unique chapter in the work of Náchod-based artist Bohumír Španiel (1925–2009), which has not yet been sufficiently explored but is quite significant in the context of his body of work. These are the artist’s architectural projects.
Monumental murals, sgraffito, and paintings on glass, mostly featuring the socialist-era “building the nation” theme and depicting a wide variety of allegorical scenes. The list includes about twenty large-scale works, created primarily in the interiors and exteriors of public buildings in Náchod and the surrounding area.
These works were created from the 1950s to the 1980s. Just as easily as they were created back then, they began to disappear from public spaces very quickly after 1990, as was to be expected.
Curator: Matouš Mědílek
The exhibition is freely accessible to visitors 24 hours a day through display cases facing the street and the arcade.
