The first in a series of workshops that will take place as part of the exhibition project I’ll Take You to Places You’ve Never Been, Vol. 2.

The goal of the workshop is to create a liminal situation during which we have the opportunity to temporarily transcend our habitual individual experiences and expand them into a collective, more-than-human experience. Voice-guided relaxation, a structured dramaturgy of the situation, and gentle physical deprivation/stimulation are the main tools for a process in which the boundaries between the body and its surroundings gradually dissolve, and the usual perceptual structures through which we perceive the world (or at least its sensually perceptible environment) are temporarily rearranged into a different form.

The workshop takes place on two interconnected levels: inside and outside, between which the quality and direction of attention shift—from detachment from one’s own identity to a newly organized, stripped-down perception of the surrounding environment and, consequently, a transformation of one’s relationship to the non-human. Inspired by shamanic techniques and psychedelic states of consciousness, it brings us closer to an (not only rational) understanding of the principles of posthumanism and deep ecology. The workshop is conducted with a focus on voluntariness and a safe framework.

Hana Magdoňová (*1989) is an artist and researcher in the field of performance. The fundamental method of her work is shamanic ecstasy and the creation of liminal experiences, which are inherent to both performative aesthetics and rites of passage. The visual, external aspect of the experience takes a back seat in favor of the bodily, internal experience (whether it involves the performer’s own body during a performance or the collective body within participatory happenings). The ultimate goal is to expand our phenomenological experience to include mythical or posthumanist realities that are constantly present in the broader reality.
