Homemade Art is an extensive phenomenon of the creation of domestic decorative handicrafts produced in Czechoslovakia between 1948 and 1989.

The Homemade Art group has been building an extensive timeless collection for over a quarter of a century, recording specifically Czechoslovak creativity. Postmodern vernacular design encapsulates a vital desire for beauty and self-expression in an environment of socialism that suppressed beauty and personal expression. The collection thus becomes, in addition to the memories of those who remembered it, a certain tangible part of the nation's memory. It is an authentic and inspiring testimony about the times and about us, about the charm of objects created without the internet by a maximally natural dissemination, just as folk art was once spread person to person, object to object.

The exhibition takes place at Zámek Veleslavín, which has been fought for years to save and preserve as a cultural environment. The castle is located in an aesthetically desperate landscape in which we hungrily seek non-commercial authentic beauty representing home, love, landscape, nature, security, time and peace for personal home creation and dreaming.

The artifacts for the exhibition were chosen to relate to the theme of castle, home, beauty and love. And just as we look for personalities to leave their mark on Veleslavin's memory, we welcome upcycled ornamental to protective objects whose charm lies in their unapologetic desire for beauty from a personal approach that emerges even more clearly with the passage of time.
