Jan Bryx and Laura Boráros have collaborated to create an exhibition that explores several meanings and aspects of the state of the unconscious. One of these aspects is the connection between a sense of protection and safety, in contrast to vulnerability. Here, the unconscious is further linked to the issues of visibility and privacy—topics that are becoming increasingly urgent not only in connection with the digital footprint we leave behind but also through forms of surveillance that extend into physical space. Being monitored is becoming the norm in everyday life—a reality we often fail to recognize and to which we frequently do not even give our conscious consent. Surveillance can be associated with care and the desire to protect, but also with control, which is always a form of domination.
The artists have chosen an intermedia approach to this theme in the literal sense of the word—that is, the exhibition features sculpture, painting, projection, sound, conceptual art, and performative elements.
To create a pleasant atmosphere, we have set up a bar with refreshments that will operate on a cash-only basis.
