The dialogue with the artistic work of Jan Měřička begins unobtrusively, quietly, suddenly. The perceiver's gaze moves rhythmically, flowing over a vast field on which geometric lines unfold. It lightly stumbles over the individual curves, becomes entangled in the fluid structure, wanders through the layers, allows itself to be carried away by the alternating overlapping of densities and silences. The gaze, oscillating between attention and distraction, is captured by specific moments, only to then release itself, allow them to subside and freely continue the search. The scene is not static, but constantly evolves slowly, ripples, looms, insistently commands the attention of all the senses. A stable grasp and embedding of experience is not and cannot be the intention here – new configurations are constantly occurring in the artwork.
The shifting meaning flickers into visibility and reassumes itself, it does not exist simply inside or outside the work - it occurs precisely between structure and perception, between part and whole, horizon and void. Jan Měřička's visual world is a continuous event where nothing ceases to exist, only continually builds upon itself in a layered momentum.
