This masterclass builds on the exhibition and our work with relief, this time using paper and papier-mâché. Come discover—or rediscover—this fun technique, which, just like ceramics, is an integral part of crafting, and for which we all have the materials at home. We’ll recycle papers of various colors and show you how to prepare the paper mixture, what you can mix in, and what not to forget. We’ll share a little of what we know about it, and then everyone will have the chance to create their own relief.
The masterclass at Rybárna is one of the stops on our summer tour: Papíry mě dělaj, dělám papíry – a newly emerging garage paper mill where we make paper from your old newspapers, letters from the unemployment office, report cards, or other official documents you might find in a drawer. The workshop will be led by its co-founders Jantra Šímová and Žofia Fodorová.
Jantra Šímová earned her master’s degree from the Illustration and Graphic Design Studio at UMPRUM. In addition to illustrations, graphic art, and creating her own books, she paints, curates exhibitions, works with ceramics, and knits. She leads art workshops and is interested in projects with social and community impact. She is a member of the Knedlík collective, works for the Ramus platform, and has completed art residencies in Marseille, Georgia, and Mexico.
Žofia Fodorová is a graduate of the Studio of Type Design and Typography at UMPRUM in Prague. She has experience from internships in Portugal and Mexico. In her work, she combines illustration with type, using various printing techniques. She creates original books and designs typefaces for her foundry, Shrimptail Type Foundry
