Jaroslav Valečka consistently persists in his
classical approach to painting, systematically
inspired by the roots of European landscape
painting, specifically northern Romanticism,
while also drawing on Modernist Expressionist
Painting and, in a certain sense, Symbolist
painting as well. His aim, however, is not to
recycle familiar, tried-and-tested approaches,
but to construct a personal artistic style
possessing an inimitable colourist character.
Valečka’s landscapes are closely tied to the
Lusatian Mountains in northern Bohemia, where
he spent his childhood and adolescence.
He captures this landscape as a reflection
of the people who live in it.
