1939–2021: Konec černobílé doby
26. 05. 2023 - 30. 06. 2030
Národní galerie Praha, Veletržní palác / Praha 7
The unfinished castle is briefly shrouded in fog and disappears from the panorama. Before new horizons open up before us, we must come to terms with the past.
This exhibition project expands upon the artists’ short film Returning to the Vampire Castle (2026). The film explores the adoption of Western architectural principles in Central Europe through the lens of a vampire story. It is set in the surroundings of Prague Castle—a polarizing symbol onto which various forms of government have, for centuries, projected their visions of state organization through architecture. At the Prostor Olga gallery, the filmmakers are exhibiting materials created during the filming of the movie and interpreting Prague Castle as an icon shaped by the interplay of countless, often conflicting visions.
We will start the opening on October 1 at 5:30 p.m. with a screening of the film Returning to the Vampire Castle, followed by a discussion with Elena Fialková, Veronika Hittmannová Rollová, Kateřina Frejlach Špičáková, and Alžběta Žabová.
The fourth exhibition in the series SYSTEM TEST, which presents the collaborative work of the youngest generation as a critical probe into contemporary social structures, testing and revealing their limits in times of crisis.
