Jiří Kobera – Architect of the Home

Týn nad Vltavou City Gallery / Týn nad Vltavou
Jiří Kobera is the core of a group of Týn natives who, after the Velvet Revolution, served in the city’s leadership to work toward its renewal and modernization. For decades, he served as a professional consultant for urban development, thereby fundamentally influencing the approach to architectural issues in Týn. In addition to renovating historic buildings, he also oversaw smaller new construction projects. Thus, the architect’s aesthetic views, trends, and the era in which the urban space took on a new form have all left their mark on the face of Týn.
Through this monographic exhibition of a local architect, we not only chart his work and career but also explore moments of civic and professional activism in the 1990s. We are rethinking these moments in the interactive, participatory section of the exhibition project. We will gradually involve children, students, and adult gallery visitors in the growing exhibition as potential architects of their city’s future image.
It is we ourselves who become the architects of our home—not only of our soul, our apartment, and our place, but also of our city, society, and the world. The ability to think visionarily and to dedicate ourselves to goals that transcend ourselves are qualities that we discover and cultivate here—both on a personal and a community level.
