In 2015 Jiří Šalamoun celebrates his eightieth birthday. At GASK we are presenting his work for film, animation and poster design, as well as his book illustrations and free artistic expression.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a comprehensive monograph on Jiří Šalamoun’s work featuring not only his art but also his poems and essays.

As well as film posters, Šalamoun created a series of posters for his own exhibitions. He collaborated with the Theatre beyond the Gate in Prague, and during the 1990s designed several highly original posters for the Estates Theatre in Prague and the South Bohemian Theatre in České Budějovice. From among his film work, probably the best known is his children’s television series Maxidog Fík that began being shown in 1977 and was followed up by a series of books that developed the dog’s stories further.

The exhibition also presents Šalamoun’s drawings for the animated film Girl Cousins, the melancholic film Looove and others. Also on show will be Šalamoun’s illustrations for Chilishnek the Snail by Pavel Šrut, Ten Cities by Marcello Argilli, the fairy-tale horror about the abduction of Princess Violin by Wojciech Żukrowski, Tracy’s Tiger by William Saroyan, The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien and Mr Tau by Ota Hofman.
