Khamoro (“Sunshine” in Romani) is the world’s largest professional Romani festival. Established in 1999 in Prague, it has been organised by the organisations Slovo 21 and Studio Production Saga. Over the years, around 280 bands from 40 countries have performed at Khamoro – including world-renowned groups such as Mahala Rai Banda, Kočani Orkestar and Parno Graszt.

In addition to traditional Romani music, the festival regularly features concerts of world-class gypsy jazz, contemporary Romani music and classical music. However, Khamoro is not just a music festival. Its programme also includes a wide range of accompanying events – exhibitions, a children’s day, storytelling sessions with witnesses, film screenings, theatre performances, dance workshops and professional conferences.

Each year, the festival attracts approximately 10,000 visitors from Czechia and abroad. The main aim of Khamoro is to bring together the Romani minority and the majority society through art and culture. Since its beginnings, the festival has been supported by notable figures, including former President Václav Havel. Khamoro is also the holder of the prestigious EFFE Label – a quality stamp for remarkable festivals.
