We would like to invite you to a guided tour of the exhibition Houses are being built from the ground up, prepared by Lucie Doležalová and Iveta Schovancová under the curatorial guidance of Tereza Havelková.

The exhibition of Iveta Schovancova and Lucie Doležalová brings together their different approaches through a difficult to name common feature of thinking about art making. It is a foundation that is burdened, worn and transformed by use. In Iveta's work, this base is an industrial material that no longer carries its original function, a rational scheme without a code. For Lucie, it is bodily sensations, feelings and movement memories that, like the worn material, have become detached from the original moment and have lost their purpose.

We invite you to a construction site where familiar forms of fallen drapery, curves of the body, ruins and tools of unclear purpose emerge. Utilitarian material is transformed by touching, overlapping and imperfect copying into new, more malleable forms, humanized prototypes. Records of movements and gestures are loosely intertwined with the new construction emerging on the layers of memory. At some points, the exhibition acknowledges the incompleteness of this process. Where one sees the spaces of vast palaces, one can also only perceive the hatched lines of multi-coloured pens. The absence of function gives way to a new meaning, which, like a game, draws meaning from the creation itself, from the careful folding, bending, overlapping, layering and distorting.
