What we know intimately from the past reemerges before us with the passage of time—in a transformed form, with a different meaning, and from a new perspective.

The exhibition You can't return, you are here presents a collaborative work by artists Margarita Ivy and Bystrík Klčo, offering viewers a glimpse into the processes through which our environment—and our relationship to what has passed—is transformed.

Thematically, the work of both artists explores questions of memory, the transformation of identity, and how personal experience is imprinted on the present. Their approach is rooted in reciprocity, listening, and a close creative dialogue. For them, collaboration is not merely a combination of two styles, but a fluid process of bending, layering, and interweaving objects, garments, and fragments from everyday life. The artists work with translucent casts and the transformation of materials, where familiar shapes encounter new forms—thus, the objects oscillate between intimate memory and objective detachment.

“For us, working together represents a space of constant listening, in which personal memories are gradually transformed through mutual dialogue into new, shared forms,” describes Margarita Ivy.

The series of works You can't return, you are here stems from an exploration of the transience of our memories and fears of losing continuity with what we have experienced. In their installations, reality is transformed into a space for the individual navigating between the need to return and the awareness that the past can now only be viewed from a new perspective. A sensitive and multifaceted process of transformation permeates the entire project, in which what we know from the past reappears—albeit slightly differently and with new meaning.

“I watched as they engaged in an inspiring dialogue about the detail in relation to the whole, as they spoke about something that doesn’t exist unless it can be jointly authorized. Which is no walk in the park,” adds exhibition curator Michal Pěchouček.

The exhibition will offer visitors a space to reflect on what from our past truly remains within us.
