The Philips Pavilion at Expo 58 in Brussels was an ingenious parallel to the building of Czech Laterna Magika. The construction based on musical scores housed film and light projections accompanied by a dynamic 3D sound composition Poème électronique. This milestone of multimedia art was a visionary piece by Le Corbusier, Iannis Xenakis and the pioneer of electroacoustic music Edgar Varès. The lecture aims to reveal not only the technical, but especially the aesthetic and philosophical roots of this exceptional collective piece of art.

Martin Flašar, Ph.D. (1979) is an assistant professor at the Department of Musicology at the Faculty of Arts at Masaryk University, Brno. He specialises in contemporary music, media, multimedia and electro-acoustic music. His dissertation “Le Corbusier, E. Varèse, I. Xenakis: Poème électronique (1958)” was prize-awarded as the best interdisciplinary thesis at the 2011 contest in Olomouc and its printed version was nominated for the F. X. Šalda prize. He was a co-author of a number of monographies, a member of the committee of the Ministry of Culture for classical music, a consultant specialist of the Czech Radio 3 and various specialised journals. In 2004–2011 he was an editor of the journal Opus Musicum and currently he works for the journal Musicologica Brunensia. He is a member of musical ensembles Indigo Quartet, Serpens Cantat and Musica Poetica.
