The exhibition Zdechlina explores the lifelong themes of Matěj Olmer, a pioneer of raw, expressive, and abstract graffiti, who repeatedly returns in his work to motifs of death, transience, and constant transformation.

The reference to Charles Baudelaire’s poem of the same name serves here not merely as an illustration, but as an interpretive framework. The imagery of “physical decay” transforms into a spatial installation metaphorically reminiscent of the interior of a grave, or rather a world in which we are governed by fate. The dominant elements of the installation are large-format canvases of various shapes forming a more or less homogeneous structure. Working with ephemeral and fluid materials, along with liquid paints, “decomposes” the form into a dynamic, gestural painting that gradually builds toward a liminal atmosphere. The result is an installation that oscillates between physical tension and an immediate sensory effect, thereby transcending the boundaries of mere representation. As Baudelaire suggests: “The forms faded away and were nothing but a dream.”
