Miloslav Moucha (1942) is one of the few Czech exile artists who have gained recognition abroad. Today, he lives and works mainly in the Czech Republic and returns to France, where he found asylum after 1968. He was appointed a professor at the École des Beaux-Arts in Besançon (1974), represented France at the Biennale of Young Artists in Paris (1975) and is represented in important public collections here, not least the Musée National d'Art Moderne Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. After his return to the Czech Republic, he earned his place here as well, and is represented in a number of other important collecting institutions as well as private collections, in addition to the National Gallery in Prague.

Miloslav Moucha's artistic journey, not counting his juvenilia with symbolist echoes of works by Jan Zrzavý, Alén Diviš or Alfred Kubin, is essentially all through nature. If we admit that nature is a material manifestation of the Spirit, then for a man caught in the matter of his own body here on Earth it represents the basic environment for understanding and then transcending himself. In this sense, the Fly is not a simple landscaper. He is an initiate, and his "landscapes" are spaces of mystery. Similarly, his recollection is not merely a personal balance sheet; with his entire work he unravels for himself and for us the Mystery of Being.
