The Foundation for Contemporary Art is an expert guarantor of the competition for new artwork for the public space of the train station in Mladá Boleslav. The commissioner of the competition and investor is the Skoda Auto Foundation, the partner is the owner of the building and adjacent land Railway Administration. The project is under the auspices of Jiří Bouška, Mayor of the Statutory City of Mladá Boleslav. The administrator of the competition is Centre for Central European Architecture CCEA MOBA.


The competition is open to artists or artistic teams. Previous realization of the work in a public space is not a requirement. Artists will have the opportunity to design and realize a work that will enrich the public space at the newly built building of the main train station in Mladá Boleslav. The commissioner's goal is to incorporate contemporary art into the station space that brings new themes and responds to the genius loci of the city.



The competition has two parts. Open call for portfolios with a presentation of three projects to date by March 13 In the second part, the jury will select five participants from the submitted portfolios and invite them to develop a proposal. The deadline for the submission of the competition proposals is 25 May. The winner will be awarded a contract of up to CZK 3,000,000, and the 2nd-5th place will be awarded prizes ranging from CZK 55,000 to CZK 45,000.



Evaluation Criteria

  • Quality of artistic and conceptual design – originality and strength of artistic expression, conceptual thoughtfulness, contextual sensitivity to place.
  • Technical quality and sustainability of the solution – feasibility of the design, technical level of workmanship, long-term durability and sustainability of materials used, adequacy to budget and requirements for implementation and maintenance over time.


Jury

The jury is composed of independent experts nominated by the Foundation for Contemporary Art, which is involved in developing the terms of reference, commissioning the competition and then overseeing the implementation. The independent part of the jury consists of representatives of the commissioning body and the Railway Administration.

Mgr. Rostislav Koryčánek – art historian, curator of exhibitions, Institute of Theory of Architecture, FA BUT in Brno

prof. MgA.Tomáš Vaněk – conceptual artist, head of the Intermedia III studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, in 2014-2022 rector of the Academy of Fine Arts, member of the professional board of the Foundation for Contemporary Art

MgA. Petr Krátký – alternate member of the independent part of the jury, visual artist, curator of exhibitions and collections of Galerie Klatovy/Klenová

The results of the competition will be announced in June 2026, the expected date of completion of the work is April 2027.
