Paths Are Made by Walking is a performative situation developed as part of our long-term research into the ungraspable. We are creating a gallery whose collection cannot be conserved — it comes into being through presence and gradually passes away.
The gallery space is the orchard itself, in Roztoky near Prague. Paths Are Made by Walking is a continuation of our graduation project at DAMU from spring 2026. Over the course of two months, we regularly returned to the old cherry orchard, trying out different ways of moving through it and perceiving it, while working together with Jestřábník, the association that takes care of the orchard. Through our repeated returns, a network of paths gradually emerged in the orchard. Locally, these small paths are called “prťavé cesty” or “prtě.” For us, this network became a temporary sculpture.
Upon entering the orchard, visitors receive a map of these paths from spring, another attempt to capture something that is constantly changing. The reprise therefore does not become a return to the same work, but another entry into its transformation.
We are interested in how to care for something without trying to keep it the same. When we stop walking along a path, it gradually disappears. Not everything has to be saved, repaired, or conserved. Sometimes we can also allow things to pass away.
