What does it mean to have a studio of one’s own today? Is it still a place associated with the image of the solitary artistic genius creating in the seclusion of their own creative world? Or is it rather a dynamic interface for dialogue and artistic research?
The exhibition Réalité/Atelier creates an environment that explores how the role of the studio, as well as its diverse forms, are changing today. The selected artists approach the studio from different perspectives, revealing its current forms and exploring different ways of working with it.
Through installations, participatory actions, video, contemporary painting and design objects, the exhibition presents the space of artistic creation as both a privilege and a source of inspiration. At the same time, it shows the studio as an often overlooked framework and constraint that fundamentally shapes what a work of art can look like – and whether it will come into being at all.
The exhibition also considers the historical connotations associated with the theoretical perception of studios, as well as their precarious position within the contemporary socio-economic contex.
