They have different life histories, experiences and probably also different reasons for living in Prague. Yet, thanks to photography and their interest in it, their paths crossed at the Photography Studio of the Art & Design Institute in Prague, where Adam Kencki, the curator of the exhibition, teaches.

Soltan Karabashev is very impressed by street photography and surrealism, working slowly but precisely. He feels comfortable in the position of a silent observer. He looks into the viewfinder and tries to capture the right moment in the layers of reflections of glass and puddles. He often inserts himself between these layers, and his images become a kind of record of the present.

Francesco Sanvito is the perfect opposite. He is the centre of attention and the unifying element of any collective. What makes his photographic work all the more interesting is that he has completely fallen for pinhole photography. He spiced up his already slow and laborious process with long exposures. He hangs his self-made boxes (but also, for example, hollowed-out lemons and similar bizarre things) on road signs and lampposts, where he leaves them hanging for days. He gives up control over the exact composition and exposure, and each new shot becomes an exciting surprise and experiment. Their nature and their work are quite far apart, yet they are united by their inner need to create and experiment. From seeing to not seeing.
