After the Second World War, the young Jewish woman Sonja Bullaty (1923 Prague – 2000 New York) trained with Josef Sudek. Later on, Sonja Bullaty left for New York, where – together with her husband Angelo Lomeo – she specialized in landscape photography and published many books devoted to nature and travel. The couple also took part in a New York exhibition that condemned the military occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1968. Sonja Bullaty was highly instrumental in popularizing Sudeks photographic oeuvre in the United States. His first one-man exhibition took place in 1971 in their family studio in New York. She also collaborated on other Sudek exhibitions and, in 1978, published an authoritative book entitled simply Sudek.
